The 41st FAVA Council Meeting

The 41st FAVA Council Meeting was held on October 16th , 2019 at Henann Prime Beach Resort Hotel, Boracay hosted by the Philippine Veterinary Medical Association, PVMA.  The meeting was attended by the FAVA Executive Committee (President, Secretary General, Treasurer and Director FAVA Office,  Bangkok), while from the member associations were representative from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal, Indonesia and Asian Society of Conservation Medicine (ASCM) as member affiliate. Commonwealth Veterinary Association (CVA) and Wildlife Diseases Association-Asian Pacific Section (WDA-AP) were also attended as a guest due to agenda of the signing MoU between FAVA and these two association.

The meeting was very successful with a constructive result for the development of veterinary profession in Asian continent. The meeting was started at 09:00 AM till 18:00 with a very tight schedule divided into several parts due to many issues to be discussed. The meeting was led by Dr. Bambang Pontjo Priosoeryanto FAVA Secretary-General . Before opening remark, the silent time was held in order to remember of the passing away of Dr. Topacio Tadulako of Philippines who was one of the FAVA founding father lead by Dr.Paul Chelliah the FAVA treasurer. The JVMA representative was pleased by FAVA Secretary-General to explaining about the disaster of Hagibis typhoon that hit Japan and causing the lost of their life as victim and all attendee took a silent time for a while leading by Dr. Sakai to remembering and give respect to the victims.  Opening remarks was delivered by the FAVA President Dr. Heru Setijanto and followed by the self-introductions of all participants. After the coffee break, the meeting was continued with one year (from October 2018 till October 2019) activities report agenda from :   1). FAVA President,  2). Secretary General, 3). Treasurer & Auditor and 4). Director of FAVA Office Bangkok.  Follow by the FAVA member countries reported which are keeping in progress in all the countries.

 

The bidding for the host of the 22nd FAVA Congress 2022 was JVMA that sent the bidding letter to the FAVA president. After presented the intention of JVMA to host the 22nd FAVA Congress 2022 by JVMA representative Dr. Koga and also the video of progress and preparation for the 2022 congress, the Councilors discussed and finally awarded to Japan on hosting of the 22nd FAVA Congress 2022. For the 43rd FAVA Council Meeting in 2021, Councilors agree to give a privilege to Taiwan to host the 43rd FAVA Council Meeting in 2021 together with the WVA Congress in Taiwan.

JVMA continue to run the program of Training Program for Asian Veterinarians Ⅱ
(TPFAV-Ⅱ) or Second phase II on the year of 2019 and the selection will begin in November 2019 next month, for the year of 2019 TPFAV-II will accept 16 trainees.

In the final session of the meeting, the presentation of CVA represent by Dr. Peter Thornber and WDA-AP represent by Dr. Tokuma Yanai was held and followed by the voting of Councilors for the agreement of FAVA have an MoU with CVA and WDA-AP. All councilors agreed for the MoU and finally, the FAVA President Dr. Heru Setijanto and the CVA President Dr. Peter Thornber was signed the MoU, followed by the signed of another MoU between FAVA President Dr. Heru Setijanto and WDA-AP President Dr. Tokuma Yanai.

 

The 41st FAVA Council Meeting was officially closed by the FAVA President and followed by group photo of all participants. The first day meeting was ended by a dinner hosted by PVMA.

 

The second day (October 7th ) was the free day and participants enjoyed the beautiful beach of Boracay by sailing with a traditional boat and snorkeling of the beautiful coral sea and swimming in the clean water and beautiful beach of Boracay. Enjoyed beautiful Sunset in the traditional boat, as well as night market at d-Mall was the last activity of the second day and the entire program.

FAVA councilors attended the 19th International Symposium of World Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians and the OIE Seminar, during 19-22 June 2019. at the Empress Convention Center, Chiang Mai, Thailand.

FAO Meeting

 

Prof. Dr. Achariya Sailasuta, Director of FAVA office, Bangkok as the representative of FAVA president, Dr. Heru Setijanto participated the forum entitled “Regional Forum on Antimicrobial Stewardship in Agriculture” hosted by   the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (FAO RAP), during   11-12 July, 2019, Bangkok, Thailand.

The objectives of the forum were: 1) contextualize the ground challenges and stakeholder needs in the practice of prudent use of antimicrobials in agriculture; 2) facilitate exchanges on the experiences and innovative approaches taken towards prudent use of antimicrobials in agriculture in Asia; 3) discuss potential solutions to address the challenges and needs, and identify the roles of key stakeholders in promoting antimicrobial stewardship in agriculture in Asia; and 4) develop recommendations to further promote prudent use of antimicrobials in agriculture in Asia.  In this regard, FAVA had presented the Role of FAVA on AMR/AMU in Asia which was successfully done through the seminar and the conference.   The forum has reached the objectives on the good antimicrobial stewardship is envisioned to contribute towards the good management of antimicrobial use (AMU) and possible solutions of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) for various stakeholders in the region.
