Advancing regional contributions to support standard-setting organizations in the development of clinical breakpoints for priority drug-bug combinations in Asia and the Pacific

29 November 2022 | 14.00–16.30 (UTC +7)

Antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) of disease-causing bacterial pathogens in livestock is an important practice that supports the responsible use of antimicrobials in animals. However, the lack of clinical breakpoints for the priority bacterial pathogens in major livestock including swine, poultry, and cattle is considered a shared concern across the region and was therefore subsequently proposed as one of the Regional Technical Items in the AMR Technical Advisory Group for Southeast Asia (2018) and South Asia (2019).

Thus, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (FAO RAP), through funding support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and technical contributions from Member Nations, various experts and partners within and beyond the region, have been progressively addressing this.

As part of these cohesive efforts, this webinar on advancing regional contributions to support standard-setting organizations in the development of clinical breakpoints for priority bug-drug combinations in Asia and the Pacific is being organized on 29 November 2022. This brief session will provide comprehensive updates on the regional work done so far relevant to this technical item, as well as other related initiatives to advance AMR surveillance in important animal pathogens in the region. More specifically, it will highlight the process of clinical breakpoint development by leading international experts, and how the region can contribute to this global process.
