FAVA strengthens community engagement through AMR seminars in Philippines

As part of its continuing advocacy to combat Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), the Federation of Asian Veterinary Associations (FAVA) is ramping up its efforts in community outreach and education across the Philippines.
During the 31st National Hog Convention and Trade Exhibits held in Manila, FAVA Treasurer Dr. Corazon P. Occidental led the charge by highlighting the organization’s Antimicrobial Stewardship initiatives.
Her talk, “Working Together to Promote Antimicrobial Stewardship in the Animal Sector in the Philippines,” drew participation from key stakeholders including business owners, farm operators, veterinarians, and other players in the animal health industry.
This seminar is part of FAVA’s broader push for inclusivity and awareness, recognizing that AMR is a complex challenge that affects multiple sectors. By engaging various members of the animal industry, FAVA aims to build a collective and coordinated response to the growing threat of AMR.
FAVA also forged stronger partnerships with the Provincial, City, and Municipal Veterinarians League of the Philippines (PCMVLP)—the country’s largest organization of government veterinarians—during its recent annual convention held in Subic Bay on May 21.
FAVA was given a valuable platform in the convention’s plenary sessions to present its AMR advocacy and stewardship efforts to government veterinarians from across the nation. This marks a significant step in strengthening collaboration between the private and public veterinary sectors in addressing AMR.
In a show of solidarity, PCMVLP also expressed its full support for the 2026 FAVA Congress, which will be hosted by the Philippine Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA) in Cebu City. The organization committed to helping ensure strong attendance and representation at next year’s milestone event.
With AMR remaining a critical global health concern, FAVA continues to amplify its Information, Communication, and Education (ICE) strategies. By conducting seminars, forums, and campus engagements, FAVA reaffirms its commitment to empowering veterinarians, industry leaders, and even students to take part in the shared responsibility of mitigating AMR through a One Health approach.
